Hi Local Presidents and Legislative Contacts,

Good news out of the NH House yesterday:

HB124: relative to the determination of gainful occupation for a group II member receiving an accidental disability retirement allowance from the retirement system

  • Passed by a generous margin 181-97.
  • It will now head to the Senate where we will continue to advocate its passage.
  • What this bill says is that when a Group II member who went out on accidental disability hits the age and years of service requirements their retirement benefit plus salary (outside an NHRS position) will no longer have to capped.

HB364: requires employers to notify existing and prospective part-time employees, who are retired members in the retirement system, of the annual limitations on hours for part-time employment.

  • Passed by a generous margin 194-89
  • It will now head to the Senate where we will continue to advocate its passage.

UP NEXT WEEK:

HB 455, establishing a committee to study the use of a cash balance retirement plan for new state employees.

  • Will be on House floor next week
  • Recommended ITL by House ED&A committee

As a reminder here is where we stand with other retirement bills:

HB 627-FN, requiring unused vacation and sick leave to be converted to service time for purposes of calculating retirement system benefits.

  • Retained
    • This means the House ED&A committee will work on it next year

HB 342: reporting of compensation paid to retired members of the retirement system

  • Passed by voice vote
  • Moves on to the Senate

HB 620: relative to the adjustment of member and employer contribution rates in the retirement system

  • Killed by voice vote
  • Bill is officially dead

SB 132: establishing a committee to study police special details

  • Passed by voice vote
  • Moves on to the House
